CAREER SUMMARY

PRE-DEBUT

Winter had wanted to become an idol singer since middle school and was a member of a K-Pop dance club at her school.

In 2016, Winter was scouted by an SM Entertainment casting manager at a dance festival in Yangsan, her hometown in Gyeongsangnam-do, South Korea, when she was 15 years old. She trained for 4 years before her debut in 2020.

AFTER DEBUT

In 2020, Winter debuted as a member of aespa, a 4-member group under SM Entertainment, with Karina, Giselle, and Ningning with the Digital Single Black Mamba. Upon debut, her angelic visuals and her "killing part" in the debut title, aespa is me can’t be two, went viral. Since then, her vocals have been continuously praised as the standout voice of aespa title tracks.

In 2021, Winter was announced to be a member of SM’s female supergroup, GOT the Beat, with other female labelmates such as BoA, Taeyeon and Hyoyeon (Girls’ Generation), Seulgi and Wendy (Red Velvet) and her bandmate, Karina.

In 2024, Winter was chosen as a model for Torretta, an ion supplement drink by Coca-Cola Korea.

POSITIONS

VOCAL

Winter is commonly thought to be the main vocal (not an official position) of aespa. Along with ningning, she’s the “vocal line” of aespa. Her range is very wide, showing consistent skills throughout low ranges to higher ranges in falsetto.

In aespa title tracks, she often sings the bridges and ad-libs. Her part in the bridge of "Next Level,Come on! Show me the way to KOSMO, Yeah,” has especially received attention for her powerful belting skills in E5. She has sung the ad-lib parts for "Savage," "Girls," and "Dreams Come True."

Widely regarded as one of the key artists of SM Entertainment to have the classic “SM singing style,” Winter is often called “the daughter of Yoo Youngjin’s Vocal Cords.”

RAP

Winter is commonly thought to be the sub-rapper (not an official position) of aespa. Even though she does not get many rap parts compared to the “rap line” of aespa (Karina and Giselle), the rap parts she delivered have generally been well-received.

In "Next Level," Winter received her first rap parts throughout the chorus and the verses. In "Savage," Winter has also gotten rap parts. Her distinctive pronunciation makes the lyrics stand out.

DANCE

Winter is commonly thought to be the lead dancer (not an official position) of aespa. Her dancing skills have been praised for crisp and clean movements that shine with the detailed, complicated nature of aespa choreographies.

All the other members have pointed out Winter as the fastest member of the team to learn new choreography and the least likely to make mistakes in a performance.

She has also made a surprise appearance on stage in Street Woman Fighter 2 with the dance crew MANNEQUEEN.
