CAREER SUMMARY
PRE-DEBUT
San was raised in the Namhae County, a southernmost rural area in South Korea. San is the first K-Pop idol to be from the region. San formed a school band when he was in middle school, performing in school and local festivals. In his first year of high school, San decided to pursue his dreams of becoming an idol singer and moved to his relative’s house in Seoul. He enrolled in Korea Art High School in 2015.
In the summer of 2016, San became a trainee of KQ Entertainment. He had never been professionally trained in dance before becoming a trainee.
In 2017, San participated as one of the contestants on the survival audition program produced by YG Entertainment, MIX NINE, but did not make it past the audition rounds.
San trained for two years and three months before his debut.
AFTER DEBUT
In 2018, San debuted as a member of ATEEZ, an 8-member group under KQ Entertainment, with Seonghwa, Hongjoong, Yunho, Yeosang, Mingi, Wooyoung, and Jongho. Upon debut, he received attention for his dance skills and passion on stage. The fandom has called San the “ipduck fairy,” or the member that catches the eye of new fans.
In 2021, San made his acting debut on the KBS2 drama Imitation, as a member of a fictional K-Pop boy group.

VOCAL
San is the lead vocal of ATEEZ, and one of the vocal line members with Jongho. San has a softer, boyish vocal tone supported by his powerful voice, which is well-suited for many genres such as Korean ballads, pop ballads, and jazz. San has diverse vocal techniques including falsetto, doubling, and harmonization, often showcasing his vocal strengths in choruses and bridges of many ATEEZ tracks.
DANCE
San is one of the four main dancers of ATEEZ, and is called the “ipduck fairy” for his powerful, eye-catching performances on stage. Some of San’s performances for songs such as “Cyberpunk” and “Take me home” have been called so iconic in the fandom that the songs were dubbed “San-yberpunk” and “San me home.”
San has been praised for his core strength and dynamic facial expressions, putting him in the “demon line” dubbed by the fandom along with Seonghwa and Hongjoong. He has been at the center of many bridges for songs such as “HALA HALA,” “WAVE,” “Answer,” and “INCEPTION.”
