CAREER SUMMARY
PRE-DEBUT
Wooyoung had been a member of his middle school dance team. He first started dreaming of becoming an idol from watching the stage of Lee Gi Kwang performing “Good Luck.” Wooyoung applied and enrolled in Hanlim Arts School to pursue his dreams.
In 2015, Wooyoung became a trainee at Bighit Entertainment. He spent his time as a trainee with Yeosang, who was also a trainee at Bighit Entertainment. In 2017, he left Bighit Entertainment and became a trainee at KQ Entertainment.
In 2017, Wooyoung participated in the preliminary auditions for the survival audition program produced by YG Entertainment, MIX NINE. He was eliminated on the first round of eliminations (episode 7).
Wooyoung was a trainee for three years and a half before debut.
AFTER DEBUT
In 2018, Wooyoung debuted as a member of ATEEZ, an 8-member group under KQ Entertainment, with Seonghwa, Hongjoong, Yunho, Yeosang, San, Mingi, and Jongho. Upon debut, he received attention for his dancing skills and vocal abilities.
In 2023, Wooyoung appeared on an episode of WATCHA original documentary series, FILL IN THE BLANK, where he chooses 9 objects that represents his life.
POSITIONS
VOCAL
Wooyoung has a distinctive vocal tone which shines in the higher register. Due to his higher vocal tone, Wooyoung mostly gets the pre-chorus and chorus parts with high notes for songs such as “Good Lil Boy” and “STAR 1117.” He has also gotten some of the most notable “killing parts” in ATEEZ songs such as “Will you be my friend?” (”Pirate King”), “Call, calll, call us right now” (”ANSWER”), and “Slow it down, make it bouncy, starting now, fly” (”BOUNCY”).
DANCE
Wooyoung is one of the four main dancers of ATEEZ, and is often regarded as one of the best dancers of the team.With Yunho, Wooyoung is the member that leads ATEEZ’s dance practice sessions. Wooyoung has once said that he prefers slower and smoother style of choreographies such as “INCEPTION” and “Deja Vu.” However, Wooyoung has been praised for his performances for tracks such as ”THANXX” and “BOUNCY” as well, for his crisp execution of minor details in faster-paced choreographies.
