CAREER SUMMARY

PRE-DEBUT

Prior to becoming a K-Pop idol trainee, Sunghoon had been a figure skater for 10 years. He won the silver medal at the 2014 Korea Figure Skating Championships and two silver medals for two consecutive years at the Junior Asian Open Trophy.

In 2014, Sunghoon made an appearance on the SBS documentary series, My Heart’s Crayon under the episode “Ice Figure Boy, Sunghoon, is Flying.” A casting manager from Bighit Entertainment had taken notice of Sunghoon from when this episode had aired and got in touch with him through Instagram. Sunghoon continued to balance his figure skating and his K-Pop idol training for almost two years, persuading his parents in the process.

In 2020, around 3 months before I-LAND began airing, Sunghoon moved to BELIFT LAB, a joint venture by CJ ENM and Bighit Entertainment at the time. He fully retired from figure skating at this time. In June 2020, Sunghoon was one of the 24 trainees to appear on the survival audition program I-LAND, co-produced by CJ E&M and HYBE. He became one of the 7 finalists to debut as ENHYPEN, coming in sixth place by earning more than 1 million votes.

Sunghoon trained for two years and one month in Bighit Entertainment before his debut.

AFTER DEBUT

In 2020, Sunghoon debuted as a member of ENHYPEN, a 7-member group under BELIFT LAB, with Jungwon, Heeseung, Jay, Jake, Sunoo, and Ni-ki. From pre-debut days, Sunghoon received a lot of attention for his visuals. Sunghoon is often called the member who fits ENHYPEN’s vampire concept the most.

In 2021, Sunghoon became the MC of KBS Music Bank with Jang Wonyoung (IVE). He was the MC of the show until September 2022. His “chemistry” with his co-MC, Jang Wonyoung, gained many fans and earned him the “Best Couple Awards” at the 2021 KBS Entertainment Awards. His “MC stages” during this time also went viral, especially the cover stage of BTS - “Butter” with Jang Wonyoung.

In 2022, Sunghoon made a cameo appearance on the web drama MIMICUS as himself, and received the IDOLCHAMP Artist Award at the 2023 Seoul International Drama Awards for his role.

POSITIONS

VOCAL

Sunghoon has been praised for his vocal tone within the fandom. He has a soft, boyish vocal tone that shine best in middle to high ranges. In ENHYPEN tracks, Sunghoon often gets the falsetto parts that add flavor to the song, such as the “sweet” refrain from “Sweet Venom.”

DANCE

Sunghoon had learned modern dance and ballet as part of his training as a figure skater. He has been praised for his body control and fluidity, excelling in big movements and acrobatic choreography. His experience as a figure skater has also helped him during the more “interpretive” or “theatrical” portions of ENHYPEN choreography that ties back to their fantastical concepts.
