CAREER SUMMARY
PRE-DEBUT
Jake was born in Seoul, Korea and moved to Australia in 2011 when he was 8 years old. He lived in Cairns and Brisbane, and went to school in Australia. Jake later earned his Australian citizenship, while retaining his Korean citizenship. He is fluent in both Korean and English, though his first language is English.
In 2017, Jake watched the performance of “DNA” by BTS on the American Music Awards and became a fan. This is also when he started dreaming of becoming an idol. In 2019, when Jake was 16 years old, he auditioned at the open global auditions held in Australia by BELIFT LAB by singing Justin Bieber’s “Love Yourself.” He became an official trainee of BELIFT LAB.
In June 2020, Jake was one of the 24 trainees to appear on the survival audition program I-LAND, co-produced by CJ E&M and HYBE. He became one of the 7 finalists to debut as ENHYPEN, coming in third place by earning more than 1.1 million votes.
Jake trained for 9 months before his debut.
AFTER DEBUT
In 2020, Jake debuted as a member of ENHYPEN, a 7-member group under BELIFT LAB, with Jungwon, Heeseung, Jay, Sunghoon, Sunoo, and Ni-ki. Upon debut, he received attention for his “pretty boy” visuals.
In 2022, Jake was credied for lyric writing on “SHOUT OUT.”
In 2022, Jake released “ZERO MOMENT”, an OST for the K-Drama Summer Strike with Heeseung and Jay.
POSITIONS
VOCAL
Jake has been getting more praise for his vocals since the promotions for “Tamed-Dashed,” receiving chorus parts for the second verse and sharing high notes with the unofficial “vocal line” members (Jungwon, Heeseung). Jake has received attention for his vocal performance in “Polaroid Love,” singing the opening and chorus parts which vent viral on short-form video platforms.
