ITZY

ITZY is a 5-member girl group (Yeji, Lia, Ryujin, Chaeryeong, Yuna) from JYP Entertainment that debuted on February 12th, 2019 with “Dalla Dalla.”

ITZY was thought of as the first major “Gen Z” girl group and one of the very first groups to kick-start the “4th generation” of K-Pop. ITZY made headlines as one of the very first girl groups to have members that were all born in or after the year 2000.

ITZY’s unique brand of music was dubbed as “teen crush,” a fresher, younger take on the “girl crush” genre. Their debut single “Dalla Dalla” claimed that the girls were “different from the girls that came before,” in that they “don’t care about others’ opinions,” “aren’t desperate about love,” and were “more than just a pretty face.” “Dalla Dalla” was a huge hit domestically and worldwide for its resonance with the Gen Z. Over time, ITZY experimented with a variety of genres other than “teen crush,” including rock and house music.

ITZY is also known for their difficult, hard-hitting choreography; they are often called “a group of main dancers.” ITZY’s success has been said to affect the 4th-gen girl groups that debuted after them to also focus more on the dance/performance aspect of their promotions.

ITZY’s most notable hits include “ICY,” “WANNABE,” “Not Shy,” and “Sneakers.”
