CAREER SUMMARY

PRE-DEBUT

When Yuna was in elementary school, she went to watch the 2015 KBS Song Festival, with her older sister. As she was watching the show, an official from JYP Entertainment noticed Yuna and cast her. Yuna went to audition at JYP Entertainment with her mother and became a trainee of JYP Entertainment in 2016.

Yuna was active as a junior flooball athelete for four years two of those years were while she was a JYP Entertainment trainee.

In 2017, Yuna appeared on an episode of the survival audition program Stray Kids, as one of the female trainees at JYP Entertainment. Even though her air time was short, she received a lot of attention for her visuals, with people saying that she would be the “perfect visual maknae.” In August of the same year, she also appeared in the music video for BTS - “LOVE YOURSELF,” dancing in pair with Jungkook.

Yuna was a trainee for approximately 4 years before debut.

AFTER DEBUT

In 2019, Yuna debuted as a member of ITZY, a 5-member group under JYP Entertainment, with Yeji, Lia, Ryujin and Chaeryeong with “Dalla Dalla.” Upon debut, Yuna’s fancam for “Dalla Dalla” went viral for her visuals and lively stage presence - Yuna, with her red hair for the specific fancam, was called “Ariel” from Disney’s The Little Mermaid.

Yuna is known to succeed the “visual maknae line” and “the tallest maknae” of JYP girl groups after Suzy (Miss A) and Tzuyu (TWICE).

In 2022, Yuna’s cover stage of Lee Hyori’s “U-Go-Girl” on 2022 KBS Song Festival: Y2K went viral in South Korea. Yuna’s visuals were highly praised as well as her interpretation of the original song.

In January 2024, Yuna released solo track “Yet, But” as one of the b-side tracks on the eighth mini-album BORN TO BE,for which she participated in the composition/lyric writing.

POSITIONS

VOCAL

Yuna has the highest vocal tone among ITZY members; her girlish tone has given ITZY title tracks the “teencrush” personality for “killing parts” such as “I”m never gonna grow up” for “Dalla Dalla” and “They keep talkin’, I keep walkin’” for ICY. Her vocals have been generally praised for the stability and clear diction during live performances.

RAP

Yuna is the lead rapper and considered to be one of the “rap line” in ITZY along with Ryujin. Her high-pitched tone when rapping provide contrast to the deeper tones of Ryujin. Yuna’s opening verse in “#Twenty” was praised in the fandom for her groovy and fast delivery.

DANCE

Yuna’s dancing has been generally praised; it is often said that she could have debuted as a main dancer in other girl groups if she had not debuted in ITZY where there are three dance powerhouses (Chaeryeong, Yeji, Ryujin). Being the tallest member in ITZY, her long limbs and agility add to her execution of the more powerful movements from ITZY choreography. Yuna’s stage presence has also been praised for her lively facial expressions.
