CAREER SUMMARY
PRE-DEBUT
An Yujin was born in Daejeon, South Korea and lived there until she became a trainee. When she was young, she went to Seoul from Daejeon with her childhood friend and watched the Melon Music Awards hosted in the Gocheok Sky Dome. This was when An Yujin first started dreaming of becoming a K-Pop idol.
After returning to Daejeon, An Yujin applied to Starship Entertainment by email, got accepted through the first round, and auditioned in Seoul. She became an official trainee of Starship Entertainment in the December of 2016.
After just a month of becoming a trainee, she appeared in music videos for “Rain” by Baekhyun (EXO) and Soyou (SISTAR), and “OPPA” by Yu Seungwoo and Sandeul (B1A4). In 2017, she also appeared in an ad for the skincard brand Clearteen with Cha Eunwoo from ASTRO, and also in an ad for ACUVUE contact lens. In the same year, An Yujin also appeared in the music video for Jeong Sewoon’s “Just U.” In the April of 2018, she appeared in the music video for “Thirst” by Mad Clown and Ailee, a collaboration track between Gatorade and Melon Music.
She trained for 1 year and 4 months before she became a participant in the MNET survival audition program, Produce 48, in 2018.
AFTER DEBUT
On October 29th, 2018, An Yujin became one of the final 12 participants to debut as IZ*ONE, a project group under the management of CJ ENM, along with her now-bandmate Jang Wonyoung. The project group was active until April 29th, 2021, releasing 4 mini albums and a full-length album in Korean, three single albums and a full-length album in Japanese. In March of 2021, An Yujin was an official MC of SBS Inkigayo for 3 weeks.
In the December of 2021, An Yujin re-debuted as the official leader of IVE, a 6-member group under Starship Entertainment, with Gaeul, Rei, Jang Wonyoung, Liz, and Leeseo with “ELEVEN.” An Yujin already had had a sizable fandom from her activities as IZ*ONE, and received a lot of attention for her visuals and her abilities as both a vocal and dance line member.
An Yujin had made many appearances on Korean variety shows since IZ*ONE and was received well for her “variety sense” and unique sense of humor. After re-debuting as IVE, An Yujin has most notably become a regular member of tvN’s Earth Arcade, topping the Buzzworthy chart for Non-Drama TV shows as a single member in 2022.
An Yujin was also an ambassador/muse for many brands and commercials, including L’OCCITANE, GATORADE, NEPA, FENDI, DONGWON F&B, and more. In 2023, An Yujin was selected by Disney to sing the Korean version of “This Wish” (소원을 빌어) for their 100-year anniversary film, Wish.
In 2024, An Yujin became one of the regular members of the TVING original variety series, Crime Scene Returns.
POSITIONS
LEADER
An Yujin is the official leader of IVE. Even though she was relatively young to take on the position of a leader, as she was only 18 years old upon debut and not the eldest member of the team, the members of IVE have said that “they are always thankful to Yujin for her leadership,” giving her the “Best Leader in the World” award in 2021 in the Studio Moonnightaudio show.
VOCAL
An Yujin is thought to be one of the “vocal line” along with Liz (not an official position). She takes over many of the ad-libs and high range notes in the chorus of IVE title tracks such as “I AM” and “ELEVEN.” An Yujin has a wide range, showcasing her abilities from low to high notes. The highest note that she has been shown to hit was A5. Her clear tones have been called “warm” and well-fitting for acoustic or pop ballads.
An Yujin is the only member of IVE to appear on King of Masked Singer.
DANCE
An Yujin is thought to be one of the “dance line” along with Gaeul (not an official position). As the tallest member of the team with Jang Wonyoung, An Yujin has been praised since the Produce 48 days for her ability to gracefully make use of her long limbs. Her facial expressions, on stage as she has had experience acting in commercials and music videos, have also made her known as one of the standouts of the team.
An Yujin has been in the center position for the more difficult parts of the IVE choreographies, most notably in the dance break for their hit song, “LOVE DIVE.”
