CAREER SUMMARY
PRE-DEBUT
Gaeul was born in Incheon, South Korea. In 2017, when she was in the third year of middle school, Gaeul was scouted by a Starship Entertainment casting manager in the preliminary rounds for “Incheon Youth Dance Contest.”
Gaeul had been a trainee of Starship Entertainment along with An Yujin and Jang Wonyoung before Produce 48 aired, and the two of them subsequently debuted. However, Gaeul did not participate in the show and was one of the hidden trainees of Starship Entertainment until her debut as IVE.
AFTER DEBUT
In 2021, Gaeul debuted as a member of IVE, a 6-member group under Starship Entertainment, with An Yujin, Rei, Jang Wonyoung, Liz, and Leeseo with “ELEVEN.” Upon debut, her unique stage presence and chic aura earned her the viral nickname “Gaeul Sunbae.”
Her “killing part” in After LIKE, “You know what my strength is? / It’s that I’m honest” (내 장점이 뭔지 알아? / 바로 솔직한거야) went viral and became a popular meme in Korea. In 2022, Gaeul replaced the word “honest” with various Korean university names for live performances across many different university festivals.

VOCAL
Gaeul has been noted for her unique vocal tone, which led to her receiving many of the “killing parts” of the IVE title tracks. The most notable examples are “You know what my strength is? / It’s that I’m honest” from “After LIKE” and “It’s so bad, It’s good / I need to see your heart” from “LOVE DIVE.”
Gaeul has received relatively fewer lines than the other members in the past; however, for “Kitsch” and “I AM,” Gaeul sings considerably more lines than in the past, as she sings the pre-chorus for both tracks.
RAP
Gaeul is officially part of the rap line with Rei. Gaeul mostly raps in the low- to mid- range tones. She often raps right after or right before Rei’s rap verses for IVE’s title tracks such as “After LIKE.”
Gaeul has written her own raps in the past for IVE tracks such as “Royal,” “Kitsch,” “Hypnosis,” “Not Your Girl,” and “Next Page.” She has also shown strength in the singing rap genre, writing her own rap for the “To.X” cover.
DANCE
Gaeul is thought to be one of the “dance line” along with An Yujin (not an official position). Her techniques and fluidity have been called one of the best in the team. She especially shines in fast-paced and detailed choreographies.
