CAREER SUMMARY
PRE-DEBUT
Prior to debut, Leeseo participated in a piano concours (competition) and was cast as the first batch of SM Entertainment Kid Models in 2016 at the age of 10. She was 1 out of 400 to be chosen.
In 2019, Leeseo was cast by a Starship Entertainment director in a Shinsaegae department store in Seoul. She became a trainee right away and trained for approximately 2.5 years before her debut.
AFTER DEBUT
In 2021, Leeseo debuted as a member of IVE, a 6-member group under Starship Entertainment, with An Yujin, Gaeul, Rei, Jang Wonyoung, and Liz with “ELEVEN.” The Inkigayo stage cam of Leeseo performing “ELEVEN” went viral days after her debut, specifically the short clip in which she stared right into the camera without flinching even for a very extreme close-up. Leeseo’s part was, “My eyes are full of you, odd,” highlighting one eye with her hand over her face.
Leeseo received attention as the youngest member of IVE with sophisticated visuals for her age. She was only 14 years old upon debut, and when she received “Best Song of the Year” (Daesang) for the 14th Melon Music Awards with “LOVE DIVE,” she set the record for being the youngest idol group member to win a daesang, a record previously held by Minzy of 2NE1.
In 2024, Leeseo was selected as the official MC for the SBS Inkigayo.
POSITIONS
VOCAL
Leeseo has a delicate and clean vocal tone, which shines in mid- to high- range parts. She is one of the more well-rounded members of IVE vocalists, taking both vocal and rap parts. In “I AM,” Leeseo sang the bridge part (”Wherever I walk, there’s a path” / 지나가는 대로 길이거든). Leeseo’s tone especially shined through in her solo release, an OST track, “MAY LILY,” for a popular Korean romance-fantasy webtoon series, “I’m the Queen in This Life.”
Leeseo is generally regarded as the third best rapper of the team, after the two official rappers, Rei and Gaeul. When Rei, the official rapper of IVE, was absent from the promotions of “Kitsch” and “I AM” for health reasons, Leeseo took over Rei’s rap parts in live performances.
DANCE
Leeseo is considered as one of the “dance line” members of IVE, along with An Yujin and Gaeul. In many of the variety shows and interviews where they are asked to demonstrate the “point choreo” or the “killing part,” Leeseo is often the member to demonstrate, along with Gaeul.
Leeseo’s considered as one of the more powerful and energetic dancers of IVE, and one of her signature moves is her hair flips on stage.
Like other members of IVE, Leeseo is also praised for her facial expressions on stage. Her debut stage that went viral with the extreme close-up became something of a trend in the K-Pop stage cam culture, called “얼빡직캠” (Close-Up Face Cam).
