RECORDS & ACCOLADES

Album Sales

  • In 2022, NewJeans’ debut album, New Jeans sold more than 440k copies within the first three days of pre-order period, breaking the record of highest sales of a debut album by a K-Pop girl group of all time.
    • New Jeans is the only debut album by a K-Pop girl group to sell more than 200k copies in a single day.
    • In 2023, New Jeans achieved million-seller status; the album is the first debut album in 26 years to achieve this feat, after SECHSKIES’s debut album in 1997.
  • OMG sold 700k+ copies within the first week of release, which was the 4th-highest sales within the first week of release by a K-Pop girl group at the time.
  • In 2023, Get Up sold more than 1.65 million copies within the first week of release, becoming the first NewJeans album to sell more than a million copies within the first week of release and the second highest sales within the first week of release by a K-Pop girl group at the time.

Charts

  • The first one of NewJeans’ three debut title tracks, “Attention,” reached no.1 on the Melon Charts. “Attention” went on to become no.1 on the monthly Melon Chart.
    • NewJeans is one of the only three girl groups in the history of Melon Charts to achieve this feat, after 2NE1 and BLACKPINK.
  • On the day of their debut album release (New Jeans) on Spotify, NewJeans set the record for the highest number of streams, listeners, and followers among the girl groups that have debuted in 2022.
    • NewJeans was the first Korean artist to enter the US Spotify charts with their debut track, with “Attention” entering the chart at no.183.
  • In 2022, â€œAttention” and “Hype Boy” entered the Billboard Global 200 at no.82 and no.116, respectively.

  • In 2023, â€œDitto” had 14 weeks of consecutive no.1 on various domestic charts, breaking the record for daily no.1 music chart ranking by girl groups (the previous record was held by Girls’ Generation - “Gee”).
    • On February 2nd, 2023, â€œDitto” became the song to have the most PAKs (Perfect-All-Kill) at 655, breaking the record previously set by BTS - “Dynamite.”
  • On January 16th, 2023, NewJeans became the second group of all time (after 2NE1) to have four songs within the no.10 rankings of the weekly Melon Chartswith “Ditto,” “OMG,” ”Hype Boy,” and “Attention.”
  • On February 1st, 2023, NewJeans became the third artist of all time to have no.1, no.2, no.3 on the monthly Melon Charts simultaneously, with “Ditto,” “OMG,” and “Hype Boy.”
  • In January 2023, â€œDitto” became NewJeans’ first track to enter the Billboard Hot 100 chart at no.96.
    • “OMG” entered Billboard Hot 100 at no.91 and “Ditto” charted at no.85.
    • The only other K-Pop artists to have two songs on the Billboard Hot 100 at the same time were BTS and BLACKPINK.

  • In August 2023, Get Up ranked no.1 on the Billboard 200, becoming the second girl group after BLACKPINK to achieve this feat.
    • “Super Shy,” (no.48) “ETA,” (no.81) and “Cool With You” (no.93) all entered the Billboard 100NewJeans is the first K-Pop girl group, and the second K-Pop group to achieve this feat (3 songs simultaneously on the Billboard 100), after BTS.
  • As of November 2023, NewJeans has more than 3 billion streams on Spotify. As of January 2024, all three of their albums, New Jeans, OMG, and Get Up, have more than 1 billion streams each on Spotify.
  • As of January 23rd, 2024, Get Up has charted for 26 consecutive weeks on the Billboard 200, a tie with BLACKPINK’s THE ALBUM for the longest consecutive time spent on the chart by a K-Pop girl group.

Awards

  • NewJeans is the third K-Pop girl group to win number 1’s on music shows from all three major broadcasting stations (KBS, SBS, MBC) with their debut title.
  • In 2022, NewJeans won â€œRookie of the Year” and “Performance of the Year” (Daesang) in the Asia Artist Awards, becoming the 5th girl group to win a rookie and daesang awards at the same time.
  • In 2023, NewJeans became the only Korean artist other than BIGBANG to win all of the following major awards (daesangs) in a single year with “Ditto.”
    • Gallup Ranking #1 (singer, song), â€œSong of the Year” at Melon Music Awards, MAMA Awards, Golden Disc Awards, Korean Music Awards, and the Asia Artist Awards.
    • NewJeans was the first female artist in 12 years to win “Artist of the Year” at the MAMA Awards, after Girls’ Generation, and the first female artist to take two “Daesangs” (”Artist of the Year” / “Song of the Year”) in 13 years after 2NE1.
    • NewJeans was the first girl group in 14 years to take two “Daesangs” (”Best Song of the Year” / “Artist of the Year”) at the 2023 Melon Music Awards, and the third female artist after Girls’ Generation and IU to take two Daesangs and “Artist of the Year.”
  • In 2023, “OMG” won best song at the 33rd Seoul Music Awards.
  • In 2023, NewJeans became the K-Pop artist to receive the most nominations from the Billboard Music Awards with five nominations. NewJeans was also the first K-Pop girl group to be selected as one of the performers for the BBMAs. NewJeans won “Top Global K-Pop Artist.”
  • In 2024, NewJeans won “Group of the Year” from the 2024 Billboard Women in Music Awards.

  • 9 months after debut, all 5 members of NewJeans have become the ambassadors of global luxury brands.

  • NewJeans was no.1 on the Girl Group Brand Ranking chart for four consecutive months, from December 2022 to March 2023.
  • NewJeans have received many brand endorsements/commercial deals from brands such as: McDonald’s, Coca Cola (”Zero”), NIKE, Apple (”ETA”), Calvin Klein, Levi’s, Hyundai Duty Free, Shinhan Bank, SK Telecom, PEPERO, MUSINSA, megastudy, Stone Henge, OLENS.
    • NewJeans has also collaborated with Powerpuff Girls (”New Jeans”), LINE FRIENDS (“ASAP”), SPOTIFY, and Murakami Takashi (”Right Now”) to release unique character IP and merchandise.
    • NewJeans sang the 2023 League of Legends World Championship theme song, “GODS.”
    • NewJeans’ prevalence in commercials with major brands have led to various Korean media calling it the â€œNewJeans syndrome” or “The whole world is NewJeans” (온 세상이 뉴진스).
  • In 2023, NewJeans became the first girl group to perform at Lollapalooza Chicago.
  • In 2024, NewJeans became the quickest K-Pop artist to perform at the Tokyo Dome after debut, with their fanmeet “Bunnies Camp 2024 Tokyo Dome.”

MEMBER STATS

Vocals

There are no official designated positions within NewJeans; thus, there is no “main vocal” or “main rapper” of the team.

Rather than focusing on belting high notes or powerful raps, NewJeans’ vocals are known for being delicate and mellow, in line with the influence of the 90s Urban R&B genre prevalent throughout their discography. NewJeans also does not use “guide vocals” or “demo vocals,” which is unusual for K-Pop, opting instead to develop the members’ own style of singing. All of the members have distinctive vocal tones and have mostly equal shares of “killing parts.”

Even though NewJeans tracks do not include proper rap verses, tracks such as “Super Shy,” “ETA,” or “OMG” feature singing raps or short spoken verses that sound like rap.

Dance

NewJeans have been praised for their dance abilities; most of their choreo is based on hip-hop and groovy movements, and the members are skilled in power control and fluidity. Most NewJeans choreography are known for giving an â€œauthentic” vibe, by having all of the members dance differently instead of having a super-synchronized routine from beginning to end. The members’ individual dancing styles are highlighted more for year-end or award show stages, where each member gets a special dance break to newly remixed versions of NewJeans’ songs.

Even though there is no designated “main dancer” of the team, Haerin and Hanni are generally regarded as the “dance line” of the team.

Visual

NewJeans have been praised as a â€œgroup of all-visuals” by the fandom and the general public. They were known as â€œnatural, girl-next-door-type beauties” upon debut, with their straight black hair and minimal makeup. As NewJeans have branched out to embrace more diverse visual concepts, including balletcore, cheerleading outfits, 90s/2000s y2k hip-hop styling, school uniforms, water nymphs and more, they have become fashion and beauty icons for the global “MZ generation.” The members are all active ambassadors for global luxury fashion brands.

There is no official center or visual member in NewJeans.
