CAREER SUMMARY
PRE-DEBUT
Before being cast by JYP Entertainment, Hyunjin had also been cast by an SM Entertainment casting manager through a talent show he entered when he was in the 9th grade (3rd year of middle school). Hyunjin had been cast by a JYP Entertainment manager when he was out shopping with his mother. He became a trainee for JYP Entertainment in 2016.
After becoming a trainee at JYP Entertainment, Hyunjin enrolled in the School of Performing Arts Seoul by the major of dance. He had not had professional dance training before becoming a trainee, and worked hard at the school to improve his dancing skills across a variety of genres, including hip-hop and urban. He was called the “prince” of the school by his peers for his visual.
In 2017, Hyunjin was chosen as one of the debut members to appear on the survival audition program Stray Kids. Hyunjin trained for a year and six months before his debut.
AFTER DEBUT
In 2018, Hyunjin debuted as a member of Stray Kids, an 8-member group under JYP Entertainment, with Bang Chan, Lee Know, Changbin, Han, Felix, Seungmin, and I.N with “District 9.” Upon debut, he received attention for his visuals and dance skills.
His visuals started garnering more attention since he started to wear his hair longer, and his fancam covering Red Velvet’s “Psycho” went viral; fans and the general public have said that he looks like a “character straight out of an webtoon” (웹툰 찢고 나온 비주얼). Webtoon artists for webtoons such as Same School Friend (같은 학교 친구) and Extroversion of an Immortal (선녀외전) have said that their male characters with long hair were inspired by Hyunjin’s looks. Hyunjin has dyed his hair in a variety of colors - blonde, black, silver, purple, read, pink, etc.
Hyunjin had been an MC of Music Core from February 2019 to February 2021.
In 2023, Hyunjin became the first male idol from the 4th-generation to have 27+ official fancams with more than a million views on YouTube.

VOCAL
Hyunjin takes more rap parts than vocal parts on most of the Stray Kids title tracks; however, on B-side tracks and some solo tracks, Hyunjin has shown more of his singing abilities. He has a higher, boyish tone when singing. His vocal tones shine through on the more acoustic or laid-back genres such as R&B-based ballads.

Hyunjin is considered as one of the rappers of Stray Kids; his rap skills have generally been praised. He has a distinctive tone when rapping. Throughout his career as Stray Kids, Hyunjin has experimented with different styles of rap, from singing rap to more hard-hitting, faster verses.
DANCE
Hyunjin is one of the main dancers of Stray Kids along with Lee Know, and is also a member of the unofficial sub-unit DANCERACHA. He is the tallest member of Stray Kids, and has been praised for his body proportions making for “pretty silhouette” when dancing. Hyunjin has a powerful and flexible style of dancing, and has been praised for his core strength and body control. Hyunjin is regarded as the member having the best and most dynamic facial expressions on stage adding to his stage presence.
