CAREER SUMMARY
PRE-DEBUT
Beomgyu grew up in Daegu, South Korea. He was part of the school band in middle school, playing bass guitar.
In 2016, he was scouted by a Bighit Entertainment casting manager when he was in his first year of high school. The manager suggested that he should come to Seoul to audition, but Beomgyu declined, saying that it was an exam period at his school. The casting manager came down to Daegu again to hold an audition specifically for Beomgyu. Beomgyu auditioned by playing guitar.
On the very first day, when Beomgyu went to Bighit Entertainment as an official trainee, he was told that he would be part of the debut team. He was the last to join the team that would later become TXT. He had never learned to sing or dance before his time as a trainee.
After becoming a trainee of Bighit Entertainment, he enrolled in Hanlim Arts School in Seoul, a prestigious school with the highest attendance by the trainee and idol students, as a dance major. He was a trainee for 3 years before his debut in 2019.
AFTER DEBUT
In 2019, Beomgyu debuted as the official leader of TXT, a 5-member group under Bighit Entertainment, with Yeonjun, Soobin, Taehyun, and Hueningkai with “CROWN.” He was the last member to be revealed among the 5 members.
Beomgyu was recognized for his “pretty” visuals and slender frame that fit the group’s dreamy and boyish concept upon debut. Beomgyu started wearing his hair long from the promotion of “0X1=LOVESONG” in 2021, which earned a lot of praise from fans.
POSITIONS
TXT has no official positions other than leader (Soobin).
VOCAL
Beomgyu has the lowest and distinctive vocal tone in TXT, along with Soobin. His low tones harmonize well with the members of TXT who have relatively higher tones, as can be seen in tracks such as “Blue Hour.” He is the unofficial “opening fairy” of TXT, singing the first verses in many of TXT’s title tracks like “CROWN,” “Run Away,” “Good Boy Gone Bad,” and “Sugar Rush Ride.”
DANCE
Beomgyu is generally regarded as having a strong, crisp style of dancing, putting a clear emphasis on each detail of the choreography rather than focusing on fluidity. He has been praised for his control over movements that emphasize shoulder movements and his lower body strength when dancing.
