CAREER SUMMARY
PRE-DEBUT
As a middle school student, Soobin first started dreaming of becoming a singer after he performed a dance routine with friends at a school festival and received applause. Pre-debut, Soobin was also a longtime fan of KARA, the girl group from DSP Entertainment, and he has said that his experiences of being in their fandom have made him nurture his dreams of becoming an idol.
Soobin was also a fan of BTS, and Bighit Entertainment was the first and only management that he auditioned for. He became a trainee of Bighit Entertainment in the March of 2016, a week apart from his bandmate, Taehyun. He was a trainee for 3 years before his debut in 2019.
AFTER DEBUT
In 2019, Soobin debuted as the official leader of TXT, a 5-member group under Bighit Entertainment, with Yeonjun, Beomgyu, Taehyun, and Hueningkai with “CROWN.” Upon debut, he was recognized for his visuals and height, which many remarked on for similarities with Lee Minhyuk from BTOB and actor Nam Joohyuk. His fancam for “Run Away,” wearing a white Adidas jersey, went especially viral in Korea, earning him the nickname of “that guy in the white Adidas.”
In 2020, Soobin was selected as the 36th Music Bank MC with Arin from Oh My Girl, later winning the Best Couple Award with Arin in the same year at the KBS ntertainment Awards.

TXT has no official positions other than leader (Soobin).
LEADER
Even though he is not the eldest member of the team, Soobin is the official leader of TXT. Pre-debut, all the members of TXT have taken turns on assuming the position of leader. The Bighit staff evaluated each of the member’s performance as leader, and they unanimously selected Soobin as the most suitable leader of the team. Other members have also commented on Soobin’s leadership skills, praising him for his communication and willingness to put others’ needs before his own.
I think Soobin is really amazing for taking care of his own feelings in his personal space, without taking it out on the team or in professional situations. In my opinion, you can tell a true leader by the smallest considerate details. Soobin has his own unique way of being very dependable.
Bandmate Beomgyu, on Soobin’s leadership
VOCAL
Soobin’s vocals shine in the lower ranges (as the member with the second-lowest voice of the team, the lowest being Beomgyu), and he was shown to use his falsetto and soft voices well. His voice stands out better in the more mellow, dreamier tracks of TXT, such as “Fairy of Shampoo,” “Opening Sequence,” and “Blue Hour.” For Valentine’s Day in 2024, Soobin released his first solo cover song of “Forest” by Choi Yuree, with an accompanying music video.
DANCE
Soobin, as the tallest member and unofficial visual member of TXT, has been generally praised for his stage presence and facial expressions. His abilities as a dancer shine most in energetic, percussive choreographies that highlight the use of his long arms and legs.
